The Russian government has approved a draft agreement with Azerbaijan for joint development of transit freight traffic along the North-South International Transport Corridor. This agreement aims to improve transport links and enhance the potential of the western route of the corridor.
Russia and Azerbaijan will ensure smooth movement of goods through their territories for transit transportation, following the terms of the agreement and their respective national laws. Customs control will be conducted in line with the agreement and international agreements involving Moscow and Baku.
The agreement includes a guaranteed volume of transported cargo. Once the railway infrastructure is upgraded, the minimum annual cargo volume from Russia to Azerbaijan starting from January 1, 2028 will be 5 million tons, with the possibility of increasing it to 15 million tons per year in the future upon a relevant decision.
