We’re just two months away from the release of Captain America: Brave New World, and Marvel is slowly ramping up its promotional efforts for the movie starring Anthony Mackie. Similar to what they did with Thunderbolts not long ago, the studio has released a “special look” at the film, which acts as an additional trailer or commercial.
This sneak peek highlights the emotional journey of the hero: As Sam Wilson steps into his role as Captain America, President Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford) wants him back as a valuable asset for the U.S. government. Ross appeals to Sam’s sense of patriotism to get the desired response. We know that later in the film, Sam’s old ally Isaiah Bradley will shoot the President, prompting Sam to investigate the incident and uncover the forces at play. However, according to a voiceover from Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), Sam “doesn’t even know what this is,” suggesting he might not be fully prepared for challenges like Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder or Ross transforming into the Red Hulk. (But honestly, who could be ready for the president to turn into a raging monster?)
While the new footage is limited, the promo finally gives us a proper look at another superhero in Brave New World: Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez. Known from Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Torres now has his own high-tech wings and has taken up Sam’s previous role as the new Falcon. Previous trailers mostly showed Joaquin in his civilian attire or gave quick glimpses of him in his suit. This film aims to capture the spy thriller vibe of Winter Soldier, where Mackie’s hero first emerged, bringing everything full circle.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Alongside the special look, Marvel has also unveiled a brand new poster featuring the main cast.
