Unidentified drones flying over the United States have stirred up various theories, with some suggesting government conspiracies or foreign threats, like an Iranian incursion. These sightings have been primarily reported on the East Coast, but similar occurrences have been noted as far as Los Angeles, Germany, and the UK in recent weeks.
The drones, often described as car-sized and sometimes flying without lights, have intrigued many, including New Jersey assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia. She noted that the drones seem to evade detection by helicopters and radios, and appear to be operating in a coordinated way.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorka mentioned that some sightings might be misidentified regular aircraft, advising witnesses to check Flightradar24 to confirm if it’s a scheduled flight. However, not everyone is convinced, with President-elect Donald Trump urging transparency and even suggesting shooting them down.
The Pentagon refuted claims by Congressman Jeff Van Drew that the drones were dispatched by Iran, supposedly from a ‘mothership’ in the Atlantic. Despite the uncertainty, the UK has also reported unusual drone activity over US airbases there.
In New Jersey alone, nearly 1,000 drone sightings were recorded in less than a month, with 193 reports on December 12 alone.

A Facebook group named ‘New Jersey Mystery Drones – let’s solve it’ has gathered tens of thousands of members sharing photos and videos of these sightings. Even Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has shared a video of large drones over his home, insisting they are not airplanes.
Governor Hogan expressed his concerns on Facebook, doubting whether the drones are a threat to public safety or national security. He criticized the federal government’s lack of transparency and action in addressing the issue, urging for immediate answers and solutions.
The federal Homeland Security Department and FBI have issued a joint statement, saying there’s no evidence suggesting the sightings pose a national security threat or involve foreign entities.
