Fans of the popular show “Bluey” finally have some news about its future. The series, which follows the Heeler dog family and their adventures, was created by Joe Brumm and Ludo Studios. There’s both exciting and bittersweet news for fans.
Earlier this year, the season finale left viewers with many questions, especially after a glimpse into Bluey’s future as a mom. Despite the release of mini-sodes, there was no confirmation about more seasons. But today, Ludo Studios announced some exciting news: “Bluey” is getting a movie! The BBC and Walt Disney Company are partnering with the show’s creators to release the film in 2027.
The movie will have a CG style, similar to films like “The Wild Robot,” “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” or Disney’s “Wish.” Fans hope it retains the show’s unique 2D charm. The film will be a Ludo Studio production with BBC Studios, and Brumm will be the writer and director. Brumm expressed his enthusiasm for working on a longer format, noting that he always believed Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. He wants it to be a memorable family event and is thrilled to collaborate with BBC Studios and Disney on this new project.
However, “Bluey: The Movie” will be Brumm’s final contribution to the series, as he plans to exit the Bluey team afterward. In a heartfelt letter, he explained his decision to step away, saying, “I always said I wouldn’t continue if I couldn’t make a new season as good as the last.” He feels it’s time to take a break from the TV series, leaving “The Sign” as his TV finale for Bluey. The movie is based on an idea that inspired his conclusion to the beloved series.
Brumm further shared how Bluey has profoundly impacted his life, making it difficult to continue writing authentically from the perspective of young children. While his departure may concern some fans about the show’s future, he assures that Bluey might continue without him at its original home. He emphasized that this isn’t the end of the show, just a shift in his focus to the movie.
This announcement gives hope that new voices might join the show’s creative process. Although the movie’s release is set for 2027 and the wait might be long, fans are eager for any updates from Disney and Ludo Studios about additional seasons or mini-sodes in the meantime.
We hope that the future of Bluey allows for creativity and authenticity without turning into a commercial endeavor. If the focus remains solely on the film, fans might be disappointed, but they’ll still be eagerly awaiting its arrival.
“Bluey: The Movie” is slated for release in 2027.
