Two people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin on Monday. The suspected shooter, a 17-year-old female student at Abundant Life Christian School, was also found dead at the scene. The shooting took place around 11 a.m. and resulted in injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive of the suspected shooter and are working on tracing the firearm used in the incident. A 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene. In addition to the suspected shooter, a student and a teacher were killed, and at least six others were injured.
Abundant Life Christian School, a K-12 institution with approximately 420 students, does not have metal detectors but implements other security protocols. The school’s director confirmed the presence of cameras and regular monitoring for safety.
Wisconsin’s gun laws have received a C rating from the Giffords Law Center, indicating room for improvement in reducing gun violence. President Biden and Governor Evers responded to the tragedy, calling for action to prevent such incidents in the future.
The shooting in Madison adds to the list of school shootings in 2024, with 38 incidents resulting in injuries or deaths so far this year. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in educational settings.
