According to a survey conducted by the Global EV Drivers Alliance, nearly all electric vehicle (EV) owners are happy with their experience, with 92% planning to purchase another EV in the future.
The survey, which included responses from 23,000 EV drivers worldwide, revealed that only 1% would switch back to a petrol or diesel vehicle, and 4% would consider a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they needed a replacement.
“These findings show that EV drivers are very satisfied with their choice, contradicting reports of reduced interest in electric vehicles,” stated Petter Haugneland, assistant secretary general of The Norwegian EV Association.

Research firm TrendForce predicts that global sales of electric vehicles, including hybrids and PHEVs, will hit 16.26 million in 2024, marking a 25% increase from 2023 figures.
The survey also highlighted that, aside from environmental reasons, the primary motivation for buying EVs is their lower operating costs.
“This should be a wake-up call for policymakers globally,” said Ellen Hiep, board member of the Dutch Electric Vehicle Drivers Association. “Having a thriving electric vehicle market is vital for cutting road transport emissions, but this goal depends on making EVs more affordable for everyone.”
In the U.S., the upcoming Trump administration plans to eliminate the current $7,500 federal tax credit for purchasing or leasing an EV.
A J.D. Powers study found that incentives play a crucial role in consumer decisions: 64% of premium brand EV owners and 49% of mass-market EV owners cited tax credits and incentives as a major factor in their vehicle choice.
Incentives were the main reason for purchase among 81% of Volkswagen buyers, 77% of Chevrolet buyers, and 72% of Tesla buyers. In contrast, only 32% of Hyundai buyers, 24% of Kia buyers, and 21% of Toyota buyers said incentives were a key reason for their choice.
