OpenAI has been rolling out several new features and updates for ChatGPT recently, and they’ve just introduced an exciting new capability: you can now call ChatGPT using a phone line without needing cellular data.
ChatGPT now has its own phone number
OpenAI announced this through a YouTube live stream, demonstrating how it works. If you’re in the US, you can call 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) to speak with ChatGPT and receive the same kind of advanced responses you’d get online. This phone service uses Advanced Voice Mode technology to create a natural conversation experience.
The main goal of this phone line service is to allow people to chat with the chatbot even when they’re in areas without internet access. For example, during a road trip, you can learn more about things you see without needing to upload photos or videos.
For international users, OpenAI has also made ChatGPT available on WhatsApp. You can text with the chatbot directly on Meta’s messaging platform by starting a chat with the same number (1-800-242-8478). OpenAI is working on allowing users to log into their ChatGPT accounts through the WhatsApp bot.
Earlier this week, OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Search for everyone at no cost. With this feature, you can ask questions and receive answers using real-time data from the web. Additionally, OpenAI has integrated video support into ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, enabling video chat conversations with the chatbot.
Moreover, with the release of iOS 18.2 last week, iPhone and iPad users can now talk to ChatGPT directly through Siri.
The ChatGPT app is free to download from the App Store and requires an iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later.
