Canada has recently warned its citizens to avoid using balloon-blowing kits sold on Amazon due to a chemical hazard. The health agency advised people to stop using the affected products and dispose of them properly. The warning covers various products like bubble ball toys, plastic balloons, and magic bubble glue.
Health Canada mentioned that Amazon sold 127 units of these products in the country between November 2023 and November 2024. So far, there have been no reported incidents or injuries related to these products.
The concern is that inhaling the vapors from the solvents in these balloons can be harmful, especially for children. Prolonged exposure to these solvents can lead to symptoms like euphoria, hallucinations, dizziness, and difficulties with voluntary movements.
Balloon blowing kits are toys that include a solvent mixture and plastic straws. Kids use these straws to create bubbles or balloons by blowing through them. The country has also issued warnings about similar kits sold on other platforms like AliExpress.ca, eBay.ca, and SHEIN.
