Continuing a longstanding tradition with Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson, the first 2025 Corvette ZR1 set for retail will be auctioned for charity. This event will take place during Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction, scheduled for January 18-26.
To clarify, the car at the auction is essentially a placeholder. Production for the 233-mph Corvette ZR1 hasn’t started yet, so bidders are really vying for the chance to own the very first model. This means the buyer can customize it as desired. Realistically, the winning bidder is likely to be NASCAR enthusiast Rick Hendrick.

Rick Hendrick is known for his extensive collection of Corvettes, old and new, many with VINs ending in 001. He has purchased the first retail C8, the first Z06, the first Z06 convertible, and more recently, the first Corvette E-Ray. Each of these cars sold for over $1 million, with the Z06 fetching an impressive $3.6 million. All proceeds from these sales go to charity, and this year, the recipient will be the American Red Cross.
There’s speculation that this auction might surpass Hendrick’s Z06 purchase. Revealed earlier this year, the 2025 ZR1 is the fastest, most powerful factory Corvette to date. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, and GM President Mark Reuss reached a top speed of 233 mph in it. Chevrolet has been testing the ZR1 at the Nürburgring, although official lap times are yet to be disclosed. Ford recently set a North American record with the Mustang GTD, breaking the 7-minute barrier. However, with 1,064 horsepower and a dynamic aero package, the ZR1 is expected to beat that time.
