Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has made significant changes to some character builds in Path of Exile 2, with the Sorceress experiencing the most dramatic nerfs. Although GGG introduced some overall buffs for all classes, this update has sparked controversy as many players feel their builds have been severely weakened. Let’s dive into Patch 0.1.0d and explore why it’s causing such a stir.
Sorceress’ Cast on Freeze Severely Nerfed
Before this patch, many Sorceress players relied on the interaction between the Cast on Freeze and Comet skills. The passive ability allowed players to gain energy every time they froze a target, and once enough energy was accumulated, they could activate the skill gem linked to Cast on Freeze without using mana or needing a cast time.
This setup made it easy to repeatedly cast Comet, inflicting significant area-of-effect damage on enemies and bosses. As a result, GGG decided to nerf Cast on Freeze.
The controversy arises because Cast on Freeze now requires much more energy to trigger a skill and grants significantly less energy when freezing an enemy. This adjustment renders Cast on Freeze almost useless, as it now takes 11 Freeze effects to cast a single Comet.
Even though this change was announced a few days before the patch went live, Sorceress players are now left with a weakened character. Respeccing points on the Passive Skill Tree costs 1000 gold per node, leaving many players financially strained due to the high cost of a full respec. The PoE 2 community feels let down by this change and is calling for free respecs from GGG, as many cannot afford the respec costs.
Dodge Roll Improvements
GGG has addressed the problem of getting body-blocked by enemies, which was particularly frustrating in encounters like the Act 2 scarabs. Now, when performing dodge rolls, the character’s size changes from 1 unit to 0, allowing them to pass through enemies. Additionally, nearby enemies will be pushed aside, reducing the risk of getting trapped and facing certain death.
Updates to Trial of Chaos
In the Trial of Chaos, enemy groups will no longer have sudden increases in density. Instead, the groups will be more consistent, and the difficulty of certain modifiers has been lowered. Furthermore, area-of-effect modifiers such as Blood Orbs and Stormcaller Runes will no longer appear when standing on an elevator or Vaal Orb platform.
